Who this policy covers

This policy applies to the Nowts iPhone app and the website at nowts.ai. Nowts is operated by Aleksei Grigorev. For privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected].

Notes and app data

• Notes, search data, imported files, and app settings are stored locally on your device.
• Nowts does not require an account and does not operate a backend that receives your notes.
• Importing and exporting notes happens on your device using the destinations you choose through iOS.
• Nowts does not include advertising SDKs, app analytics, or tracking.

Voice dictation

When you start dictation, Nowts temporarily records audio on your device and transcribes it locally using the bundled Parakeet speech-recognition model. Dictation audio is not uploaded to Nowts, OpenAI, or another cloud transcription service.

The temporary audio file is deleted after successful transcription, when you cancel or dismiss dictation, or when you close the editor. If transcription fails and a Retry action is available, the audio remains only on your device during that retry window and is deleted when you dismiss or cancel the failure or close the editor.

Optional OpenAI features

Nowts offers optional writing actions such as Improve, Grammar, Shorten, Summarize, Simplify, Tone, and Translate. These features require your own OpenAI API key and run only when you explicitly invoke an AI action.

• The selected note text, or the whole note when there is no selection, is sent directly from your device to OpenAI.
• The request does not pass through Nowts-controlled servers.
• Your API key is stored locally in the iOS Keychain and is never sent to us.
• OpenAI processes the submitted text under its own terms and privacy policy.

You can use Nowts without adding an API key or using any OpenAI feature.

The Nowts website

Nowts uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate website traffic and improve the site. The analytics beacon may process information such as pages viewed, referral source, browser and device characteristics, and approximate country derived from technical request data.

Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies, local storage, or cross-site identifiers to track visitors. We do not use this analytics data for advertising or to build individual visitor profiles. Cloudflare processes this data under its Privacy Policy.

Like most websites, the hosting and delivery infrastructure may process routine technical request data such as your IP address, browser information, requested URL, and request time to deliver the site, maintain security, and diagnose failures. Retention is determined by the hosting provider's operational policies.

The website loads typefaces from Google Fonts. When your browser requests those files, Google may receive technical request data such as your IP address and user agent under the Google Privacy Policy.

Sharing and selling

We do not sell personal data. We do not use your notes, dictation audio, or AI requests for advertising or profiling. Data leaves your device only through actions and services described in this policy: an OpenAI writing action you explicitly invoke, destinations you choose when importing or exporting, routine website delivery requests, and privacy-focused aggregate website analytics.

Deleting your data

• Delete individual notes inside Nowts.
• Remove your OpenAI API key in Nowts Settings.
• Uninstall Nowts to remove locally stored app data from the device, subject to normal iOS backup behavior.
• Temporary dictation audio is deleted as described in the Voice dictation section.

Your choices and rights

You may choose not to use OpenAI features. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights relating to personal data processed in connection with the website. Contact us at [email protected] to ask a privacy question or make a request. Because Nowts does not receive your locally stored notes, we cannot access, export, or delete them for you.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Nowts, its website, or applicable requirements change. The date at the top of this page shows the latest revision.
